Portfolio

Four projects. One is a company I own and run. Three are companies I invented, then designed and built, to work out how the same method applies to a business that is not mine. Every card says which it is.

  • The Pierrepont homepage: the bridge mark set over a nineteenth-century painting of the harbor

Client work · Brooklyn, New York

    Pierrepont

Needlepoint canvases, kits, and finishing. The name and the mark; the wholesale program that put it in seventy shops; a library of guides that teaches and sells at the same time; and a finishing service that sells a second time to the same customer. Four problems, and what changed.

  • The Long Light concept site: a refraction across the frame, the opening sentence travelling from the top left to the bottom right

    Concept · a photographer

    Long Light

A service studio whose problem is the first message. Built so an inquiry arrives with the date, the scope and the budget already in it, and so the portfolio shows the right work in the right order rather than everything at once.

  • The Ostlund Clay concept site, the shop: tableware made in batches of thirty

    Concept · a ceramicist

    Ostlund Clay

A goods company selling to two people at once: the customer who wants one bowl and the shop that wants twelve. Both paths run without the wholesale half leaking into the retail half, and the line sheet a buyer needs is part of the site rather than a PDF sent on request.

  • The Quire Press concept site, homepage: ink pressed into the sheet, not laid on top of it

    Concept · a letterpress stationer

    Quire Press

The hybrid, and the hardest of the three: a shelf of things with prices beside a commission that has to be quoted. The two paths stay distinct, so someone buying a box of cards is never asked the questions a wedding client needs to answer.

Three of the four are invented companies. Nobody commissioned them and nobody paid for them; I built them to test the method on a business that was not mine. Pierrepont is the only real engagement on this page, and it is my own.

Thesis is new, and I am taking on a small number of founding clients at rates that reflect it. If you would like your work to be the next project on this page, tell me about it — the first conversation is thirty minutes and costs nothing.
